Being a Human
Being a Human
Being a human is challenging, messy business, perhaps now more than ever. Like so many others, you might find yourself struggling to feel okay about your self and your life in this world. Regardless of your circumstances or life story, many of us could use some help right now.
However, not everyone identifies strongly with any one “area of concern” (such as anxiety, depression, PTSD / trauma, grief and life transitions). Or perhaps you find yourself identifying with an overlap of many of them. The struggle could manifest in so many different ways. Perhaps you recognize some of the following:
Addictive behaviors
Difficulty sleeping
Panic attacks
Unemployment, career questioning, work apathy
Mood swings, emotional instability
Difficulty with emotional regulation—including anger, fear, panic
Effects of racism, sexism, homo/transphobia, and other forms of systemic oppression
Challenges with communication
Codependency, and other challenges with interpersonal boundaries
Relationship struggles
Low-self esteem
Self-loathing
Suicidal thinking
Difficulty staying present / mindful
Difficulty feeling emotions
Technology and screen overload
Toxic shame
Toxic perfectionism
Procrastination paralysis
ADHD and Attentional ineffectiveness (trouble concentrating)
Avoidant attachment or anxious attachment
Obsessive thoughts
Compulsive behaviors
Dissociation, or feeling disconnected, numb, or unreal
Existential crises (Why do I exist? What’s the point of living?)
Spirituality, religion, and uncertainty of meaning
Hallucinations and delusional thinking
A generally negative / pessimistic / fearful outlook on life
What a list! And there are so many more things someone might be struggling with right now.
Luckily, therapy can often help with any of these challenges. Therapy can encourage you to be your truest, bravest, most genuinely human self. I have helped clients work with all of the above in ways that honor their uniqueness and life experience.
You might not be sure about what it is you need help with. Or where to start! That’s okay. I can help you sort through your uncertainty and find clarity.
The ability to wake up, grow, and heal is already contained within you. My job is to help facilitate its emergence and blossoming.
Being a human isn’t easy, but it can get easier.
